Mercer County, WV — The Mercer County Commission is pleased to announce the first steps in a major revitalization project for Glenwood Lake. Preparations are underway for the draining and dredging of the lake in 2025, with initial efforts focused on vegetation removal and promoting recreational fishing.

The Commission recently initiated the search for qualified contractors to clear trees and foliage along the lake’s shoreline. This measure aims to improve the fishing experience and enhance access for kayaking and boating.

“We want to encourage more anglers to enjoy Glenwood Lake and help us reduce the fish population in preparation for the upcoming draining and dredging,” said Commission President Bill Archer. “It’s going to get started in April next year. We don’t want to see the lake drained and have a bunch of fish in there that are stranded.”

The lake is scheduled to be drained in April 2025, allowing for the removal of accumulated silt and the replacement of the aging dam. While the lake is drained, the rest of Glenwood Recreation Park will remain open, offering visitors access to recently upgraded amenities such as pickleball courts, resurfaced basketball and tennis courts, a new outdoor amphitheater stage, and picnic shelters.

A mandatory pre-bid conference for interested contractors will be held on Monday, June 10th at 3:00 PM in the Route 20 parking lot at Glenwood Park.

The Commission is committed to preserving the natural beauty and recreational value of Glenwood Lake for future generations. This revitalization project will ensure the lake remains a vibrant asset to the community for years to come.
