Mercer County officials today celebrated a significant milestone with the announcement of full occupancy at the Gardner Center, a multipurpose facility located on Mercer Springs Road just outside of Princeton.
Formerly a U.S. Forest Service Forestry Sciences Laboratory, the property was acquired by the County in 2020 and has since been transformed into a vibrant hub for various organizations and community services.
“We are thrilled to announce that the Gardner Center has reached full occupancy, with all available spaces now occupied,” said County Commissioner Bill Archer. “This achievement highlights the growing demand for this versatile facility and its importance to our community.”

The Gardner Center currently houses a diverse range of occupants, including:
- Region 1 Planning & Development Authority
- Princeton Rescue Squad
- Mercer County Development Authority
- Mercer County Public Service District
- Mercer County Detective Bureau
- Mercer County Youth Reporting Center
- Mercer County Litter Control
- Gardner Center Maintenance Dept.
- Mercer County Animal Control
- West Virginia Highway Safety
- American Legion Post no. 54 Princeton, WV
- Gardner Center Naturalist/Conservator
The Center serves as a valuable resource for the community, offering a variety of services, programs, and activities. Its location near local hiking trails also makes it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
