A state of emergency has been declared in Mercer County as high winds from Hurricane Helene cause widespread power outages and downed trees. Governor Jim Justice issued the declaration.
Keith Gunnoe, Director of the Mercer County Office of Emergency Management, reports that the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia has issued multiple weather alerts for the area, including a high wind warning in effect until 8:00 PM and a flash flood warning until 8:45 PM. Emergency Management officials are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
