We’re thrilled to share an update on several vital water infrastructure projects underway in partnership with the Lashmeet Public Service District (LPSD) and our engineering partners, Thompson & Litton (T&L). These initiatives are a key part of the Mercer County Commission’s commitment to infrastructure investments and ensuring safe and reliable public water service for all our residents. The updates, provided as of September 18, 2025, highlight our continued progress in extending essential services to unserved and underserved customers throughout Mercer County.
💧 Stovall Ridge-Nubbins Ridge-Camp Creek Waterline Extensions
This project focuses on connecting to the existing LPSD waterline in the community of Beeson and extending service along Mercer County Route 5 and US Route 19 into the Nubbins Ridge, Stovall Ridge, and Camp Creek Communities.
Recent Progress & Next Steps
- Recent Accomplishment: Thompson & Litton (T&L) is continuing the field research necessary for the WV DEP-AML (Abandoned Mine Lands) eligibility determination in the Nubbins Ridge area.
- Key Issues: The primary challenges are securing the funding for design and establishing the Project Team for the project.
💧 Mary Branch Waterline Extension
The Mary Branch project will connect to the LPSD waterline—installed as part of the Giatto-Weyanoke Water Extension project—along State Route 10 near the intersection of State Routes 10 and 71, extending service along State Route 71 into the Mary Branch Community.
Recent Progress & Next Steps
- Recent Accomplishment: All previous bids for the project were rejected by the Public Service District, and a re-bid is scheduled for November 2025.
- Key Issues & Schedule: LPSD needs to establish the re-bid schedule. Additionally, market volatility needs to be monitored before the re-bidding process. The next DWTRF (Drinking Water Treatment Revolving Fund) meeting will be scheduled once the Authorization to Advertise has been issued.
💧 Brickyard Road Waterline Extension
This extension will connect to the end of the LPSD waterline along Mercer County Route 7 (Gardner Road) and run along County Routes 7, 16, and 7/3 to serve the Brickyard Road and Old Gardner Road Communities.
Recent Progress & Next Steps
- Recent Accomplishment: The project team is continuing the application process for design phase funds.
- Key Issues & Schedule: The most critical next step is to secure funding for the design phase. The Project Team also needs to begin coordinating meetings with DWTRF.
Looking Ahead
We appreciate the hard work of the Lashmeet Public Service District, Thompson & Litton, and all the stakeholders involved in moving these essential water projects forward. Extending safe and reliable water service is a major focus for your Mercer County Commission, and we’ll continue to provide updates as these crucial initiatives progress.
Stay connected for more updates on how we’re working to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected Mercer County!
